HISTORY AND MISSION

Northwest Forest Republican Women (NWFRW) is an award-winning federated club founded on June 6, 1974, in northwest Harris County, under the leadership of the late Priscilla Petty.  NWFRW is one of the largest Republican Women’s clubs in Harris County. It is affiliated with the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) and the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), the largest partisan women’s organization in the country.

Leadership counts!  Over the years members of our NWFRW have volunteered many thousands of hours to the Republican Party in the cause of good government.  Primary members have been elected to the State Legislature, Judicial positions, Houston City Council, to the State Republican Executive Committee as well as County and District leadership positions, the Texas Federation of Republican Women Board of Directors, the National Federation of Republican Women Board of Directors, and have also served on national committees.  Many members of this hard-working Republican Women’s organization serve as precinct chairs, campaign staff personnel, poll takers, voter registrars, and phone bank chairman and election workers.  Two of our members have been elected to the State Legislature; several have been elected to judgeships. One has been elected to the Houston City Council while another has been appointed to the Houston City Planning Commission. NWFRW members serve as officers and members of the TFRW Board of Directors.  One of our members has served on the NFRW Board of Directors.

Six members, all former presidents of NWFRW, (Beverly Fisher, Judy Smith, Peggy Hamric, Jo Konen, Sylvia Manley, and Patricia Harless) have received the TFRW 10 Outstanding Women Award.

Northwest Forest Republican Women fundraising promotes community programs, educational projects, and supports Republican candidates.

The $1,000 Priscilla Petty Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating female high school senior from Texas, who is a relative of a primary member of NWFRW.

To promote an informed electorate through political education; to increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through active political participation; to facilitate cooperation among Republican women in Texas; to foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote its ideals; and to work for the election of the Republican Party’s nominees.
